One reason why Wal-Mart has been able to expand so rapidly and beat out their competition is the fact that they control almost all of their own warehousing and shipping in house. Wal-Mart has several warehouses across the U.S. with their own fleet of trucks. However, that’s all about to change as Wal-Mart welcomes their first ever third-party logistics carrier on full time.

C.H. Robinson is the lucky company that’s been teaming up with Wal-Mart. Rob Kinsella, a C.H. Robinson representative, said, “By utilizing tools and programs customized to Wal-Mart’s business we were able to assist with surge capacity and supply chain resiliency during the polar vortex, and throughout 2014’s extremely tight transportation market.”

Overall, the supply chain and transportation industries have had a rough couple of years. More and more consumers are shopping for products online, putting stress on shippers. Additionally, weather conditions have been bizarre, causing delays and loss of goods during transportation. Wal-Mart is partnering up to avoid some of these logistics problems in the future. So far, Wal-Mart is very happy with C.H. Robinson. And, they’ve decided to honor the logistics provider with a 3PL Award.

C.H. Robinson provides logistics support to both Wal-Mart and Sam’s Clubs, as well as several other distribution facilities across the U.S. They are now helping Wal-Mart maintain their goal of “Everyday low prices.” A Wal-Mart representative stated, “They (C.H. Robinson) are essential to accomplishing and exceeding our important goals. In turn, we are able to translate the efficiencies into everyday low prices for our customers.”

Wal-Mart executives will visit C.H. Robinson’s corporate offices to present the award and celebrate the strategic partnership. It is scheduled to take place in May 2015 in Minnesota. Kinsella said, “It’s satisfying to celebrate this win with the entire C.H. Robinson team, as it’s an effort that comes from across out entire North America Network. To accomplish what we do for a company like Wal-Mart, it takes a lot of hard work and commitment from a lot of people.”[/show_to]
